On the last Sunday in August it is traditionally time (again) to watch and enjoy, to be surprised and amazed by the largest theater parade of the year.
On 28 August, 16 huge theater sets and 2,000 actors will parade through the center of Heeze, the pearl of Brabant. What began in 1954 as a simple parade with farmers' carts has grown into a true spectacle that is unparalleled; in 2019, the theater parade attracted no less than 40,000 (inter)national visitors.
The Brabantsedag is about the past of the Duchy of Brabant, including the Belgian part. The (cultural) history is innovatively brought to life within an annual theme. For the 63rd Brabantsedag that theme is With Verve. Each wagon building group has chosen a painter born in the Duchy. They are inspired by the painter or his painting, but the work of art must not be portrayed literally.
The process of building a wagon takes months. From brainstorming and the idea to the execution, thousands of Heezen people are busy shaping the amazing creations. On the last Sunday of August, a colorful and picturesque palette of sixteen different painters will ride through the streets of Heeze.
On Sunday morning the village is slowly filling up and the public can enjoy entertainment, music and street theater along the parade route. Also after the parade there is plenty of entertainment and catering at the five Sfeer&Smaakpleinen.
From 1:30 p.m. the immense structures will roll past the public in the two-hour theater parade. This is enjoyment with a capital and a capital G, expressive or subdued theater, seriousness and comedy, reality and fantasy that bring the past of the Duchy of Brabant to life.
Children also enjoy the parade. The subjects are explained especially for them in the Parade Guide that is on sale at the entrances and the information kiosk. The youngest spectators (up to and including 12 years of age) even have free admission to the event.
The Brabantsedag Heeze is therefore a complete day out for the whole family and the perfect end to the summer vacations!
