HEEZE – "Carnival Unmasked" is the theme of the 66th Brabantsedag in Heeze. This was revealed on November 7 during the annual theme announcement. The sixteen float-building groups are tasked with drawing inspiration from the history of carnival and the many rituals and traditions that enrich this folk festival. As they delve into this, they will come to surprising discoveries, which they will "unmask" during the Brabantsedag theater parade on August 31, 2025.
The History of Carnival
When asked about Brabant’s customs and traditions, "carnival" is often the answer. Rightly so; carnival plays a significant role in our history. Carnival is filled with symbolism and rituals, with many deep layers, making it a perfect theme for Brabantsedag.
Frank van Lierop, chair of the Brabantsedag Theme Committee, adds, “We will maintain our traditional Brabantsedag pillars: ‘link to history,’ ‘location Duchy of Brabant,’ and ‘not in a carnival style.’ This year, the audience will be treated to a theater parade *about* carnival, but without resembling a carnival parade. That may seem like a contradiction, but nothing could be further from the truth!”
6 x 11
The choice of this theme is no coincidence, as Brabantsedag is preparing for its 6 x 11th edition—a number rich in symbolism in carnival tradition.

Matty Jorissen is responsible for the visual identity accompanying this year’s theme. The illustrator and animation filmmaker highlights a face with a falling mask at its center. Carnival is being literally "unmasked." Additionally, a glimpse is offered into the many stories and symbols surrounding carnival, including a jester’s ship, the world turned upside down, and the battle between Carnival and Lent. However, by using black and white, much is still left to the imagination.
Official Chair Handover
The theme announcement also served as the stage for the official chair handover of Stichting Brabantsedag. After ten years, Boukje van Ettro passed the proverbial baton to the new chair, Luc van der Veen. The native of Heeze expressed his great enthusiasm to continue building the future of Brabantsedag.
The 66th Brabantsedag theater parade will take place on Sunday, August 31, 2025. We look forward to seeing you there!
